Denise Phillips

“Feeding horses has become quite a science. Not only do you have to feed the correct amount of protein, but you have to make sure that Calcium and Phosphorous ratios are balanced, you test your hay and supplement or change grains to balance the vitamins and minerals that are lacking in the hay rations, some horses require extra oils or a probiotic to increase gut enzymes to help remedies for everything from coughs to mood swings! Every horse under my care has a specifically designed ration to meet his or her needs so this process became increasingly difficult and time consuming to manage. Another primary concern was the inconsistent quality of hay in our area. Sometimes all you can get is alfalfa and sometimes all you can get is grass. It’s very hard to find the perfect timothy/alfalfa mix that was made right and grown in good soil.

The soil in our area is known to be deficient in several minerals, especially selenium. I had always wanted a product that could compensate for our fluctuating hay quality but I thought that would take a miracle…until I discovered Allegra.

I have been feeding Allegra products now for almost a year and I must say I’m impressed! Allegra has a complete line of products. All the foals are on the Baby formula, gestating mares, the off season stallions and show horses are on the Support formula, which comes in a grass formula and an alfalfa formula, so we can easily adapt to our changing hay quality (amazing!), harder working horses, lactating mares, yearlings and the breeding horses get the Senior formula. I have also found the Senior formula works great for horses that need improvement without making them “ high”.

Allegra Plus is also a fine supplement that we give to our gestating mares, young horses and breeding stallions.

I have found that I save time and money while IMPROVING the quality by feeding the Allegra line of feeds, mainly because our supplementation program has been significantly reduced and the feeds are such high and consistent quality that we really can feed less.”
